Steer EV vs. Lease

Steer EV offers all the benefits of a subscription model for people looking to use an electric vehicle. Compared to a lease, Steer’s program offers a singular monthly fee that provides access to a variety of electric vehicles, insurance, maintenance and roadside assistance, and a concierge service.

Which cars are available?

Each tier offers access to a unique set of electric vehicles. The Practical Advantage Plan includes the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt EV, and Toyota Prius Prime. The Preferred 3 Plan only offers access to the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. Steer’s luxury option, the Premier Performance Plan, comes with access to the Tesla X, Tesla Model 3 Performance, Tesla S, Audi e-tron, 2019 Jaguar I-Pace, Porsche Cayenne, and BMW X5.

Steer’s monthly fee includes unlimited mileage, unlimited vehicle swaps, insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, vehicle registration, and delivery.

Steer’s insurance covers up to $1,000,000 dollars, with a $1,000 deductible for major accidents.

You’ll also receive an included charging adapter for your home, so you can charge your vehicle.

You can also opt-in and increase your monthly fee for Steer’s SteerPass and Fastcharger plans. The SteerPass gives you a 1500 mile allowance worth of charging at most public charging stations, while the Fastcharger provides you with installation of a fast charging station in your home. The SteerPass will add an additional $40 to your monthly price and the Fastcharger will add an additional $20.

What is not included in the Steer EV monthly price?

Steer offers hybrid vehicles and if you choose to use one of them, you’ll be responsible for all fuel costs. You’ll also be charged for the cost of refilling the car if you return it with less than a full tank.

Other than that, the only extra costs are any applicable additional tax, and the initial $500 charge upon activating your account.

Is Steer EV right for you?

Steer offers a comprehensive and very tempting service. Unlimited miles and swaps is a huge plus, and the variety of their fleet is great for being all electric or hybrid.  If you live in the DC Metro area, and are in the market for an electric vehicle, I’d definitely check out Steer EV.
