SIXT+ Review – Complete Review
SIXT+ is rental car company SIXT’s car subscription service. With SIXT+, customers have access to rent a range of vehicles, each with their own monthly fee. Customers can pick up their new car at designated SIXT pick-up stations. Subscribers can use their SIXT+ car for as many, or as few, months as they want.
German car rental company SIXT was founded in 1912, switched to become a taxi company after WWII, then returned to it’s rental car roots in 1951. SIXT has about 2,100 locations in more than 105 countries.
What does a SIXT+ subscription look like?
Subscribers choose a type of car they’d like to rent – small SUVs, sedans, luxury sedans, full size SUVs etc. Each type of car has its own base monthly fee, which can increase based upon which customization options the subscriber selects. These are options like extra mileage allowance, toll service, additional drivers, and insurance options.
The cars can be picked up at designated pick-up stations in select cities after signing SIXT’s rental agreement. Subscribers can continue to drive their rented car for up to 12 months before SIXT+ requires that the car be replaced with a new one for maintenance purposes.
Traditional swapping isn’t offered, but customers can schedule new rentals once their current rental term is up or has been cancelled.

You can find SIXT+ in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Coral Gables, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Maui, Miami, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pompano Beach, San Francisco, Scottsdale, Seattle, and Tampa.
How do I sign up?
Select and configure your desired vehicle type and pick up location either online or through SIXT+’s mobile app. You’ll be prompted to create your own SIXT account where you’ll fill out all the relevant info. You’ll provide personal information, payment information, and also your auto-insurance information. Then, when you go to pick up your car you’ll receive one of a few models that fit your needs.
Am I eligible for SIXT+?
Thought it can be subject to State law – SIXT requires that subscribers are at least 21 years old. Some types of cars are also age restricted for anyone under 25, and anyone under 25 will be subject to an Underage Driver Fee. Other than that, you just need to provide proof of your own car insurance and a valid driver’s license.
How long do I have to wait for my new car?
Your car can be available for pick-up in as little as 24 hours.
Can I try the service before I commit to it?
There is no trial period available.
Can I swap vehicles?
You can swap vehicles once your current term is either completed or cancelled.
How do I cancel SIXT+?
Just return the vehicle to the pick-up station you originally retrieved it from. Returning it will cancel your current rental. However, you won’t be able to be refunded for any remaining time on your current term.
SIXT+ vs. Lease
Think of SIXT+ more as a long term rental that you pay per month. Your commitment to any one car can be as long as one year, which isn’t as long as a lease but is longer than you’ll usually find with other subscription services. Obviously, there’s all the included services that come with your monthly fee, most of which can be customized way more than any lease agreement. However, there are rental-like restrictions that apply to SIXT+ customers that won’t apply for people with leases. For example, certain States won’t allow you to drive your rented SIXT+ car outside of state limits.
What models does it carry?
SIXT+ currently advertises the following vehicles, or vehicles similar to them, as being available for subscription: Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris IA, Mini Countryman, VW Jetta, Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Pacifica, Mercedes-Benz CLA, GMC Acadia, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz GLC, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac CT6, and the Range Rover Velar.
How much does it cost?
Each vehicle has its own monthly price – which can increase depending on which add-ons subscribers choose to include.
At the time of writing this review, the cheapest option starts at $499 per month and the most expensive option starts at $999 per month.
What is included in the SIXT+ monthly price?
SIXT+ offers a lot customization and flexibility when it comes to what is included with your monthly price. Your mileage allowance per month can be customized, the available options of which depend on which vehicle you want. Your monthly fee also includes one vehicle swap in the event that you keep your SIXT+ car for 12 months.
The monthly price also covers Insurance, which is customizable. SIXT+ offers three comprehensive insurance plans at different prices, as well as further customization options from which you can choose.
Routine maintenance is included and roadside assistance can be added on. SIXT+ doesn’t offer a delivery service, but picking up the vehicle obviously comes with no extra cost.
What is not included in the SIXT+ monthly price?
After you’ve agreed to the monthly fee, there’s no changing your mileage allowance. If you drive over that allowance, you’ll be charged a few cents per extra mile.
You will also be charged for the cost of refueling the vehicle after you’ve returned it.
Is SIXT+ right for you?
SIXT+ is highly customizable, which is great. There are some frustrating restrictions for people who might be looking to travel outside their state, and it might be frustrating if you want a specific model. That said, if you’re simply looking for a car that fits your needs, and you’re not worried about traveling all over the place, SIXT+ might be right for you.

Q: Are SIXT+ new or used vehicles?
A: All their cars are either new or have cleaned and detailed to be as good as new. You can expect to receive either this year’s or last year’s model.
Q: Can other people drive my SIXT+ car?
A: You can add additional drivers when you configure your subscription. There will be a fee for each additional driver added. Additional driver’s driver’s licenses must be presented when picking up the car.
Q: Can I drive SIXT+ outside the US?
A: No, you won’t be able to drive outside the US, and each state has its own travel policies for rental cars.
Q: Can I buy out the SIXT+ vehicle if I want to keep it?
A: Most SIXT+ cars are available to purchase. Just reach out to SIXT and let them know you’re interested in purchasing your car.
