Porsche Drive

Porsche Drive Review – Complete Review

“Porsche Drive” is Porsche’s contender in the subscription service market. Emphasizing flexibility, the service advertises access to the perfect Porsche for every occasion, with one or three month-long terms. You can choose to have access to multiple models, or a single model, along with the usual inclusive services like insurance, roadside assistance, and a delivery service.

Established in 1931 as an automotive consulting and development company, Porsche has since become one of the most recognizable names in the automotive industry. After helping to develop the original Volkswagen Beetle, the Porsche 64, released in 1939, was the first car to have the Porsche name attached to it. In 1948 Porsche developed and released the Porsche 356 – the first car Porsche would manufacture as their own automotive production company.

What does a Porsche Drive subscription look like?

Porsche Drive is where the streamlined flexibility of car subscription services meets the luxury and performance of Porsche.

Only interested in one model? No problem, just choose between a one month or three month commitment. Monthly payments vary depending on which model you choose. When your term is up decide if you want to keep this model or try a new one at a different price.

Or, sign up for one of the two multi-vehicle plans (“launch” or “accelerate”) and have the option to unlimited swaps per month between multiple Porsche models, for higher monthly fees.

You can use the Porsche Drive app for all your basic needs, like requesting your next vehicle, and figuring out when, and where, you want it delivered. Porsche will deliver your new car and even transfer your personal items over to the new vehicle.

On a multi-vehicle plan, swaps are unlimited and only require 24 hours notice to make sure you get the car you want.

Your monthly fee covers your vehicle’s insurance, road maintenance, the concierge service, up to 1,500 miles per month on a single-vehicle subscription, and up to 2000 miles per month on a multi-vehicle subscription.

How much does it cost?

As expected, with Porsche cars comes Porsche prices. After the initial $595 sign-up fee, monthly costs vary.

As a single-vehicle member, monthly payments differ between models, but you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,500 for the cheapest model (Maycan family), to around $2,600 for the most expensive model (911 family). Sign up for a 3-month commitment instead of a 1-month commitment, however, and Porsche will waive your $595 sign-up fee.

The multi-vehicle plans are flat monthly payments regardless for access to all the models included with your membership level. The “Launch” tier will cost you $2,100 per month, while the “Accelerate” tier will cost you $3,100 per month. Both tier’s monthly fees do not include tax.

How long do I need to wait for my new car?

Once you apply, you’ll have to wait a few days for your eligibility to be determined. You can expect to receive your car within one to two days of scheduling a delivery.

Can I try the service before I commit?

Nope, sorry.

Can I swap vehicles using Porsche Drive?

Depends on if you sign up for a single-vehicle or multi-vehicle membership. With a single-vehicle membership, you’re only paying for access to one model.

Multi-vehicle members have access to unlimited swaps (Porsche calls them “flips”). Just give Porsche at least 24 hours heads up to make sure you get the car you want delivered to you.

How do I cancel Porsche Drive?

Just let Porsche know you’d like to cancel 30 days before your desired cancellation date.

Alternatively, you can switch your membership plan between single-vehicle and multi-vehicle by letting Porsche know at least 10 days before starting your next program period. Of course this option is subject to availability.

Porsche Drive subscription vs Lease?

The single-vehicle membership plan is fairly similar to a traditional lease. Obviously your monthly payments will be a bit higher, but you’re paying for all the extra benefits that come with the program like insurance, roadside assistance, and the concierge service. Also, unlike a traditional lease, you’re only committing to your current vehicle for either one or three month increments, which, when concluded, you can decide to either re-up or cancel.

The multi-vehicle membership’s monthly payments are considerably more expensive than the single-vehicle membership’s. However, with that you get access to unlimited swaps between different Porsche models on top of the included benefits previously mentioned. This makes the multi-vehicle membership the less lease-like option of the two.

Which cars are available?

Single-vehicle subscribers have access to:

  • Maycan (S, GTS)

  • 718 Cayman (T, S, GTS)

  • 718 Boxter (T, S, GTS)

  • Cayenne (Coupe, S, E-Hybird Coupe, S Coupe)

  • Panamera (4S)

  • 911 (Carrera, Carrera Cabriolet, Carrera S, Carrera S Cabriolet, Carrera 4S, Carrera 4S Cabriolet)

For multi-vehicle subscribers, available models differ between the “launch” membership option and the “Accelerate” membership option.

What is included in the Porsche Drive monthly price?

With the monthly fee, single-vehicle members are allotted 1,500 miles of driving distance per month. You’ll be charged for excess miles at a rate of $1 per mile. Any unused miles per month will only roll over into the next month, for a maximum 2-month period. Multi-vehicle members are allotted 2,000 monthly miles, with the similar $1 per extra mile charge and roll over policy.

Both memberships cover insurance that includes a $1,000,000 combined single limit, and an underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage limit of $300,000. Any physical damage will be covered up to $125,000. As a member, you will be responsible for a $1,000 deductible per accident.

Both memberships also cover maintenance and roadside assistance, and include the “personal concierge service” with “white glove delivery” within a predefined delivery area.

However, only the multi-vehicle membership includes free, unlimited swapping per month between available models.

What is not included in the Porsche Drive monthly price?

Taxes aren’t included in the monthly fee and vary depending on location. You’ll also have the initial $595 joining fee to pay. Fuel isn’t covered, but cars will be delivered to you with a full tank – which means that if you return a car without a full tank of gas, you’ll be charged when the concierge service subsequently refills it.

Finally there’s the $1 per excess mileage fee.

Is Porsche Drive right for you?

Look, this is Porsche; it’s not cheap. But here’s the thing: if you can afford to buy or lease a Porsche, odds are you can also probably afford Porsche Drive. What it really comes down to is how much you enjoy Porsche cars and how important it is to you to own one outright versus having temporary access to multiple different models.

With a membership you’ll have the flexibility to try out different Porsche models and pick the right car for the right occasion.
