Hertz My Car Review – Complete Review

Hertz My Car is the rental car company’s subscription service. Choose between two tiers of monthly payments and get access to a variety of vehicles you can swap between up to twice each month.

Hertz, originally founded in 1918 as Rent-A-Car inc., began with a fleet of a dozen Model T cars, and has since grown into the world-wide recognizable brand name we’re all familiar with today.

Hertz currently has 9,700 franchises in 150 different countries.

What does a Hertz My Car subscription look like?

Hertz My Car offers two tiers of subscription plans, each at different prices. Both tiers operate the same way: pay a flat monthly fee for access to Hertz My Car’s fleet of vehicles, with the option to swap out your vehicle for a new one, for no cost, twice per month.

Like most other subscription services, Hertz’s monthly fee includes things like insurance, maintenance, and roadside delivery.

How much does it cost?

After paying an initial, non-refundable $250 sign-up fee, your monthly fee will vary depending on to which payment Tier you’ve subscribed.

Tier 1 will cost you $599 per month, Tier 2 will cost you $999 per month, and Tier 3 will cost you $1399 per month.

Where does it operate?

Hertz My Car operates nationwide at all corporate airports and neighborhoods.

How do I sign up?

Head on over to the Hertz My Car website and sign up through the link at the top of the page. You’ll have to enter your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards number and fill out a few questions. As a Gold Plus Rewards member, Hertz will already have most of the required information, and you’ll also receive Gold Plus Reward points through your Hertz My Car subscription.

A representative will then call within three days to let you know whether or not you’re eligible for the service.

Am I eligible for Hertz My Car?

As long as you’re at least 25 years old, then all you need is an active Hertz Gold Plus Rewards membership, a valid driver’s license, and an eligible credit score.

How long do I have to wait for my new car?

Once you’ve been approved, you’ll have to wait one to three days for your new car.

Can I try the service before I commit to it?

Hertz doesn’t currently offer any kind of trial period.

Can I swap vehicles?

You can swap out your car for no extra cost up to two times per month. If you’d like to swap out your car more than twice per month, it’ll cost you an additional $75 per swap.

How do I cancel Hertz My Car?

To cancel, you’ve got to call up their Customer care line at 888-225-6610 and let them know. If you cancel any time within your first two months of being a member, you’ll still be charged for two months of service.

Hertz My Car vs. Lease

Technically, with Hertz My Car, you can swap between cars as many times as you like – you’ll just be paying a fee each time once you use your two free swaps each month.

Obviously, there’s no swapping a leased car. Other than that, Hertz offers the usual all-inclusive simplicity of a subscription service monthly fee. That said, Hertz’s lack of a dedicated mobile app doesn’t separate its user experience from a traditional lease as much as other subscription services do.

What models does it carry?

The models in Hertz’s fleet constantly vary depending upon availability, and each of the two payment tiers come with access to different types of cars.

Subscribing to the less expensive Tier 1 gives you access to economy, compact, and mid-size sedans..

Subscribing to Tier 2 gives you access to full-size sedans, small SUVs, and small trucks.

Subscribing to Tier 3 gives you access to luxury sedans, regular SUVs, large trucks, as well as all of the Tier 2 vehicles.

What is included in the Hertz My Car monthly price?

You’ll get access to your tier’s specified vehicles, with two free swaps per month. You can drive your Hertz My Car vehicle for up to 2,000 miles before accruing additional mileage fees.

Your monthly fee also covers your auto insurance. Hertz will cover bodily injury or death up to $100,000 per person, $300,000 in accident coverage, and up to $50,000 in property damage.

You’ll also have included access to 24/7 roadside assistance, and free delivery or drop-off at any of its participating locations.

What is not included in the Hertz My Car monthly price?

You’ll also have to pay the $250 one-time sign-up fee, and once you surpass the 2,000 mile limit, you’ll be charged $0.35 per mile for any extra miles driven.

On top of that, Hertz will charge you $5 a gallon to refill your car if you’ve returned it without a full tank of gas.

Also, keep in mind that the Tier 1 monthly fee does not cover the cost of adding an additional driver, or included Sirius XM radio.

Is Hertz My Car right for you?

Hertz offers a pretty straightforward subscription service. There aren’t really any eye-catching features, nor any glaring omissions. The lack of a dedicated mobile app is a bit of a letdown though.

Price-wise, Hertz My Car is on the lower end of the middle of the pack, so it’s got that going for it. If you’re looking for a car for daily use with relatively flexible terms, and not necessarily access to a bunch of different models, Hertz could be a good option for you.

Hertz My Car Help & Support

You can call Hertz support any day between 7 am and 7 pm central time, at 888-225-6610.
