Access by BMW

BMW hits the pause button on Access by BMW

Nashvillians who have been enjoying Access by BMW for the past few years will no longer be able to partake in the car company’s excellent car subscription service. Initially created to test out the subscription service model, BMW is using this downtime to analyze the data they’ve gathered and further develop their Access service. So, it’s probably safe to assume that BMW’s first foray into the car subscription marketplace probably won’t be its last.

Now that Access by BMW is on an indefinite hiatus, here are a few other car subscription options for Nashvillians to check out.

Hertz My CarHertz’s very own car subscription service is available at all corporate airport and neighborhood locations and offers a solid, three tiered subscription service. Though it may not be the most innovative or ground-breaking subscription service, Hertz My Car covers just about every base you could want from a subscription service, and integrates seamlessly with existing Hertz accounts.

Care by VolvoEssentially a 24-month lease in the form of car-subscription-like all-inclusive monthly payments, Volvo offers a service as useful and reliable as the cars it produces. With excellent customer service, a Volvo model for any of your needs, and a monthly fee with excellent coverage, Volvo is a great alternative for previous Audi Select members.

Access by BMW Review – Complete Review

Like BMW’s? Live in Nashville? You’re in luck! Access by BMW is BMW’s luxury vehicle subscription service just for Nashvillians. Touting the flexibility of unlimited vehicle swaps between various makes and models, and the all-inclusiveness of car subscription programs, BMW’s three-tiered subscription plan is a luxury option in the car subscription market.

BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG) was founded in 1916 in Munich, Germany, and originally produced aircraft engines. They produced their first automobiles in 1928, and have since established themselves as giants in the luxury and sports car markets. The BMW brand also includes Mini and Rolls-Royce.

What does an Access by BMW subscription look like?

For a monthly fee, subscribers have access to unlimited vehicle swaps, insurance coverage, waived maintenance and repair fees, and BMW’s concierge service that will deliver your new vehicles to you.

There are three tiers of pricing plans, each with different available models.

How much does it cost?

After paying the $575 joining fee, you’ll be paying a recurring monthly fee, the amount of which is determined by the pricing plan you’ve chosen.

The Icon plan is the cheapest at $995 per month, the Legend plan is the middle tier at $1,399 per month, and the BMW M plan is the high-end option at $2,699 per month. Basically, with each jump in cost, you’re paying for access to an increased variety of available BMW models.

Where does it operate?

Right now, just Nashville, TN.

How do I sign up?

Right from your phone. Just download BMW’s mobile app and hit “sign up”, then follow the prompts. Fill out your information to create an account, then provide a valid credit card and a photo of your driver’s license before choosing your desired plan: either the Icon, Legend, or BMW M.

BMW will check your driving history, then contact you to schedule the delivery of your first car. Just tell them where to drop it off and BMW will transfer everything over to your new car. The whole process usually takes about a day.

Am I eligible for Access by BMW?

You are as long as you’re 21 or older and have a valid driver’s license and driving record.

How long do I have to wait for my new car?

The whole process usually takes about a day.

Can I try the service before I commit to it?

There is no trial period.

Can I swap vehicles?

As often, and as many times as you’d like.

How do I cancel Access by BMW?

Your subscription will auto-renew each month, at which point you’ll automatically be charged your monthly fee. If you want to cancel, just give BMW a heads up and your subscription will end after your current month is up.

Alternatively, BMW allows you to pause your subscription for any amount of time for a one-time fee of $200.

Access by BMW vs. Lease

The big differences here are the unlimited vehicle swaps and all the benefits covered by the monthly fee. Yes, at first sight the monthly fee looks like a larger sum than what you would pay monthly for a lease, but when you consider all the would-be extra costs that are included with your monthly fee, the price difference isn’t so drastic.

What models does it carry?

Available models vary depending on your subscription plan.

Icon members have access to:

  • X4 M40i
  • M340i
  • X3 M40i

Legend members have access to all Icon models, as well as:

  • Z4 M40i
  • 540i
  • M2 Competition
  • X5 xDrive

BMW M members have access to all Icon and Legend models, as well as:

  • M5 Sedan
  • M550xi
  • M850 Gran Coupe
  • X7
  • 750i
  • M850i Convertible

Even at the Icon legal, members have access to smaller, sportier options, as well mid-size and larger SUV options.

What is included in the Access by BMW monthly price?

Your monthly fee will cover all the usual bases. BMW’s insurance coverage includes a $1,000 deductible, $1,000,000 liability coverage as a combined single limit, combined uninsured motorist coverage of $300,000, and $2,000 in medical payments to balance out any out-of-pocket or deductible costs.

You’ll also get unlimited vehicle swaps and, unlike most subscription services, BMW’s monthly fee comes with unlimited miles – as in, there is no mileage limit for your vehicle and no extra cost for any mileage over that limit.

Maintenance and roadside assistance are included, as well as a concierge service that will deliver your new BMW right to you, and transfer all your belongings and preferred settings over from your old BMW.

Finally, all taxes are included in your monthly price.

What is not included in the Access by BMW monthly price?

To be honest, not much. Outside of the initial $575 sign-up fee, you’ll be paying for your own fuel, and if you return a vehicle with less than a full tank of gas, BMW will charge you for the cost of refilling the vehicle.

Is Access by BMW right for you?

Do you live in Nashville? Are you ready to pay top-dollar? Access by BMW has some really great features as long as the high price tag isn’t an issue.

The unlimited swaps and concierge service are really nice, and with BMW you know you’re going to get a fun, powerful car.

It’s yet to be seen what, if any, features will change if BMW expands their Access program to include other markets.
